Diego Armando Maradona is regarded as one of the best footballers of all time. Pele tied with him for FIFA’s greatest player of the 20th century. He died at age 60. Argentina’s government has ordered a 3 day mourning period for one of their most famous citizens, who scored 34 goals in 90 games for his country.
He is widely remembered for his 1986 World Cup performance, especially the quarterfinal against England, in which he scored his infamous Hand of God goal and the famous goal in which he dribbled from the halfway line and scored. He also led Argentina to the 1990 World Cup final. Maradona is best known for playing for smaller Italian club Napoli, which he led to two Serie A (top-division) titles and greater prominence in Europe. While he was a controversial figure, the 4-time Footballer of the Year award remains in the Greatest of All Time argument today.
